Line Chokes

Line Chokes

A Choke is an electrical inductor used to restrict or block alternating current (AC) while allowing direct current (DC) or lower-frequency signals to pass through the circuit. Chokes are commonly used in filtering circuits, power supplies, lighting systems, and electronic equipment to suppress noise and unwanted harmonics.

A typical choke consists of:

  • Copper or Aluminum Windings for efficient current conduction
  • Laminated Iron Core or Air Core to enhance inductive properties
  • High-quality Insulation Materials for electrical safety and reliability
  • Protective Enclosure to provide mechanical protection and safe installation
Working Principle

A choke operates on the principle of inductive reactance, which is the opposition offered by an inductor to alternating current. The inductive reactance depends on the frequency of the AC supply and the inductance of the coil.

As the frequency increases, the choke provides greater opposition to current flow, thereby helping to filter out unwanted high-frequency signals and electrical disturbances.

A Reactor is an inductive coil designed specifically for power system applications to control voltage, current, and reactive power within electrical networks. Reactors are extensively used in power transmission and distribution systems to maintain system stability and protect equipment from electrical stress.

Reactors are commonly used for:

  • Limiting fault currents in power systems
  • Controlling voltage levels in transmission networks
  • Filtering harmonic currents in industrial installations
  • Improving power factor and overall power quality
  • Protecting capacitor banks from switching surges

Due to their robust design and high current handling capability, reactors are widely used in industrial plants, substations, capacitor banks, and power distribution systems operating in both Low Tension (LT) and High Tension (HT) networks.

Our Chokes and Reactors are designed with high-quality core materials, precision winding techniques, and superior insulation systems to ensure efficient performance, reliability, and long service life in demanding electrical environments.
